Keep Calm and Cast On - Good Advice for Knitters
Keep Calm and Cast On is a delightful pocket book full of quotes, quips and wit plus expert troubleshooting tips and techniques to keep the contemporary knitter calm in the face of a dropped stitch. The wise and often amusing quotes are compiled from a myriad of sources, including historical and contemporary essays, poems and fiction. Also included is a selection of previously unpublished quotes from contributors such as Kaffe Fassett, Jared Flood, Brandon Mably, Pip Lincolne and other luminaries of the knitting world.
Knitting’s calming properties are well documented, and interesting facts concerning the therapeutic benefits of practicing this craft are interspersed amongst the quotes and technical tips, ensuring that this book is not just informative and humorous but also good for your well-being. Alongside the witticisms and fascinating facts is solid, practical advice designed to keep the knitter sane while all around them is unravelling. Erika will share her foolproof tips for making sure you don’t get yourself into a tangle and that your knitting will go that much smoother.

Mum knows best...
This Mother's Day treat your Mum (or let your daughter or son treat you) to a visit to Monk's House,
the Sussex country retreat of the Bloomsbury writer Virginia Woolf...
...she was a knitter too, as this intimate portrait by her sister, the artist Vanessa Bell shows.
I am also loving these cute 'Sewing Tin' biscuits by Biscuiteers,
the perfect tea time treat and something a bit different than flowers to send your craft-loving mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, daughter or friend this Mother's Day!

Oh I do like to knit beside the seaside...
I had just about the best time in Cornwall this weekend at the wonderful
a boutique, family-run hotel with the best Eco ethos, practise and friendliest service I have ever encountered.
Bedruthen was the most beautiful setting for a knitting weekend workshop for, as it turned out, mostly novice knitters and a few with a little rusty know-how.
It was a pleasure to be invited and I just wanted to say thank you so very much to Kitty, Clair, Deborah, Josie, Rosalind, Juliet, Lydia, Michelle and Rachael...you were absolute stars!
and of course Olivia Harris for making us all so welcome.
Sally and I had such a great time, with much knitty practise participated in, exchanging of tips and techniques and crafting of tea cosies...
So looking forward to returning for the next weekend workshop break in November, just in time to knit Christmas gifts.
Be sure to check out Bedruthen Steps for details of my next workshop,
and other interesting craft breaks, or just for a lovely few days away by the sea!

Erika Knight Exclusive
It’s rare to find passion in business!
Even rarer to find a devotion and integrity that inspires my woolly heart in this often cynical ‘credit crunch’ culture and most especially within the turbulent textile industry.
But it is there in abundance at Laxtons mill!
It is evident in every fleece, fibre and fabric, and I am so excited to announce that
I am to be collaborating with James and Alan, on an exclusive new venture...
I'll keep you posted!

LACE FACE AT LIBERTY
Courtesy of the fabulous Susie Lau of stylebubble - just the best fashion blog around!
The windows at Liberty are always exceptionally inspiring, yet this simple yet stylish mannequin evokes the summer season succinctly! Lace and pleats and hues of henna and cinnamon. ! Certainly inspiring me to get creative with crochet!
Now, I don't suggest for a moment that I will be creating granny square balaclavas, more like lace trims, delicate accessories and pretty tops in stitches and textures reminiscent of aged Maltese facades [ not falcons either] in faded tones of terracotta!
Check out Rowan Mag 49 for one I made earlier.....

Sartorial Stitches
Have been working my way through 21 classic movies by the late and fabulous Cary Grant,
a definitive box set gifted to me this Xmas by my equally fab bro!
And amongst the gems, [fave to date is 'That touch of Mink' ] have come across this wonderful image of the suave and sophisticated king of sartorial style himself, and he's knitting! Made my day!!
Who wouldn't want to pick his stitches up!
